| First Time Photography Camera? I am looking for a decent first time amateur photography camera. It's mainly for a hobby of mine and i am not planning to any photography professionally. My phone camera and everyday digital cameras are not enough to please me anymore so i am looking for a step up. My main subject are animals, little landscape work, close-ups and action shots, domesticated and wild. Both automatic and manual settings would be sweet. Price range i'm looking at is around £200-£300. I would pay £400 maximum if i am convinced it's THAT good. | There are a lot of nice options in your price bracket, depending whether you insist on buying new, or are willing to take on a second hand bargain. Buying new, you could consider the Fujifilm HS10/HS20 bridge camera, it gives you the same amount of control as a SLR, but more versatility. Unfortunately you'll have to invest again when you upgrade in the future. SLRs are system cameras and give you more flexibility in future upgrades. If you buy a new SLR you'll only be able to get a Canon 500D, a Nikon D3100 or a Pentax K-r, they're capable, but you'll be losing a lot of money in depreciation, as you'll find the need to upgrade in 12-18 months. I would personally look to a good second hand prosumer camera. There are many people who buy SLRs and find themselves out of their depth, and so sell on. I'd look at second hand Nikon D80 and D90, and second hand Canon EOS 40D's. The Nikon 18-105 and 18-135mm lenses are good, and Canons 17-85mm is also good. Stop your equipment purchases at a body and lens, and start scouring the web for photography tutorials, and learn how to exploit your camera and lens to it's maximum. Once you've found your photographic identity, you can start looking at more specialist equipment. |

| If there is someone controlling the PA, then you don't even need to think about the mic at all, just play regardless. Flute is easy for a PA to pick up because it is really clear in the higher registers - for outdoors, they may use a dynamic mic which means you may need to be fairly close - the ideal place is near to your lips without getting in the way of your playing. The best advice is to just forget about the mic and play as well as you are able, it is up to the sound-man to worry about the mic not you... |

| Photoshop is a complicated program to learn and it's an image editor. It's not really designed to do things like create flyers. You should check into desktop publishing software to create your flyers. I'm not saying that Photoshop can't do it but it's not the optimal choice for your task. Other programs are much better at layout and formatting. Photoshop is for editing the images you would use in the publishing program. |
| Amateur circuit building help...first time using ICs? so, what ive done so far is built an astable mulltivibrator (something that generates square waves) using a 555 timer IC. i built the circuit on a breadboard but i haven't actually put the IC into it yet. either way, pin 3 is the output pin and it generates square wave pulses. i am using a 9V battery for that part of the circuit, but the problem is that i need 3v EXACTLY to flow to certain component when the high part of the wave is generated. so, i was thinking that there had to be some magical device that has 4 pins, and one is input, the other is output, and the other two are two leads to a switch, so that whenever current flows through the input and out the output, another circuit with completely different voltages can be closed/completed. does anyone understand what im saying? if so, is there a magical device that can do what i said? |
| You can build a simple voltage comparator, which upon an input voltage greater than say 3 V it will output 3 V. You can use a simple Op-amp IC for that. |

| Anywhere from nothing to millions and millions of dollars. The highest spec was Deja Vu, not Basic Instinct. It sold for $5M. Get some writing under your belt first. Worry about getting an agent or a manager to sell your work for you later. |
| Hubby and i are first time home buyers? We are expecting our first baby and would like to move into our own place. He works & i am currently unemployed due to my pregnancy & with an income of 2,000/month we would like to find something cheap & reasonably priced. We found a couple of really nice 3 bedroom homes under $110,000. We would prefer something under $100,000 but if we're not able to, we'll just have a room mate or two to help with the mortgage. | $50,000 may be doable, but much more may be a stretch. You are only going to be considered for a mortgage with your husband's income. You, because you are not working, and getting roommates will not enter into this at all. Not sure why you are not working when you are only 4 months along, but OK. YOu can typically expect to be approved for about 3 times your annual salary. But there are other things that will be factors, debt to income, credit score, most lenders want to see 2 years of steady employment history, etc.. Your potential renters income will not be a factor for what you can get qualified for, that is not how it works. My advice, get two employed persons for the mortgage, this may take a while if you have a long period of unemployment due to your maternity leave, even if you are reemployed in the same field you left. |
